In 2025, Hanoi's tourism industry aims to
welcome more than 30 million visitors, including more than 7 million
international visitors, with the hope that tourism will accelerate and
contribute greatly to the capital's economic growth.
2024 is considered a year of strong growth for the Vietnamese tourism industry
when it welcomed 17.5 million international visitors and 110 million domestic
visitors, equivalent to the number of visitors before the Covid-19 pandemic. Of
which, the capital city's tourism has made a large contribution. The total
number of tourists to Hanoi reached 27.86 million, an increase of 12.7% compared
to 2023, of which international visitors were 6.35 million, an increase of 34.4%
compared to 2023.
According to Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong, Hanoi
is playing the role of "locomotive" of the country's tourism. Hanoi's tourism
revenue accounts for 1/8 of the country's total revenue; the number of
international visitors to Hanoi accounts for 35% of the country's total
international visitors... "The capital's tourism industry has seen remarkable
growth with many new tourism products that have become lessons for many other
provinces and cities to learn from, such as night tours, the application of
digital technology in management and tourism product development", Deputy
Minister Ho An Phong assessed.
Looking back over the past year, it can be seen that the highlight of Hanoi
tourism is the organization of many large-scale, professional, annual events
such as: Hanoi Autumn Festival, Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival, Hanoi Tourism
Gift Festival... In addition to traditional products attracting visitors, Hanoi
also develops many tourist routes connecting the inner city to the suburbs such
as the product "Nam Thang Long Heritage Road" with 2 routes: Hanoi Center -
Thanh Oai - Ung Hoa - My Duc and Thanh Tri - Thuong Tin - Phu Xuyen; community
tourism "Return to Ban Mien" (Ba Vi), rural tourism Tich Giang (Phuc Tho)...
According to Director of Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang, the
achievements of Hanoi tourism are also proven by many prestigious awards such
as: "Vietnam's leading cultural destination 2024"; “World's Leading City Tourism
Authority 2024”; “Asia's Leading City Destination 2024”; “Asia's Leading
Short-Term City Destination 2024” awarded by the World Travel Awards. “This
shows the strong rise of the capital city's tourism on the international and
regional map, continuing to affirm the attractiveness of Hanoi to domestic and
foreign tourists,” Ms. Dang Huong Giang assessed.
Enhancing the capital's tourism position
In 2025, Hanoi's tourism industry aims to welcome over 30 million visitors, an
increase of 11.1% compared to 2024, including over 7 million international
tourists (including 5 million visitors with accommodation). Total revenue from
tourists will reach over 130 trillion VND. This is a big goal, requiring the
entire industry to focus and make more efforts.
According to experts, although tourism in the capital Hanoi is creating strong
growth momentum, Hanoi still faces many challenges such as: environmental
issues, lack of key high-end products to attract luxury guests; tourists staying
less, spending less; service quality at some cultural tourism destinations
associated with historical relics, traditional craft villages is not high...
According to General Director of Flamingo Redtour Company Nguyen Cong Hoan, for
tourism to take off in the coming time, Hanoi needs to promote eco-tourism and
green tourism products; strengthen the chain of links with travel agencies and
destinations to build high-quality products. According to Vice Chairman of Hanoi
Tourism Association Nguyen Tien Dat, Hanoi still has a lot of room to develop
tourism, including promoting high-end tourism such as golf tourism and MICE
tourism. To attract long-term visitors, Hanoi needs to organize many attractive
cultural and tourism events and festivals.
Currently, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has set out 6 key tasks in 2025 to
help tourism achieve its expected goals. In particular, the Hanoi Tourism
industry will reassess the tourist market, focus on promoting and attracting
key, traditional international tourist markets such as: Northeast Asia, ASEAN,
EU and organize promotions in new, high-potential markets such as: India,
Eastern Europe, Halal Muslim countries...; build more tourism products, cultural
tours associated with night tourism, health care tourism, culinary tourism,
river tourism. In addition, Hanoi will promote propaganda, promotion, and
linking provinces and cities to create inter-regional tourism routes; promote
digital transformation in management and product development.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism Dang Huong Giang said that the goal
of 2025 is not only to attract a large number of visitors but also quality
visitors, high spending and long-term stays. “Developing tourism in Hanoi and
building products will be associated with the general planning space of the
capital city in the Hanoi City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision
to 2050”.
